Writing Informational - Native American
Writing Informational - Native American
Need a writing unit for November? I've got you covered!
Now includes the tribes of Wampanoag, Paiute, Cherokee, Haudenosaunee, Apache, Navajo, Sioux, and Cheyenne. Each article has at least 1 QR code that links to a YouTube video with supplemental information about the tribe.
This unit provides explicit instruction for students on how to write an informational paper. Mini-lessons, writing papers, and informational pages are included!
Since I teach a multigrade class, the unit is differentiated to meet the needs of various levels of students. I truly understand having many leveled writers in one room! ***If you are using this with first graders you will probably need to read the passages to the students.
There is no prep needed for this unit! Just select the pages you want and print them for your students. I do suggest a writing folder or 3 ring binder. It helps keep the students organized. We use 3-ring binders so the students can easily take papers in and out.
It takes about 2 weeks for the younger students and about 1 week for the older ones to complete a report about a Native American Nation. Partner this with my Pilgrim Writing Informational. They are perfect together. Use one as a shared writing project, then the other as a more independent project. The first serves as a guided practice and the second is independent practice. It could even be sent home as homework for a family project! Or, split the class in half. Half of your students can do Pilgrim reports and the other half complete the Native American report. Have a Thanksgiving celebration sharing the reports and celebrating by dressing up and having food. There are so many possibilities. It could fill your whole November!
*** Enjoy a nice savings when you purchase the Pilgrim and Native American Bundle! ***
I truly hope this unit makes your life a little easier. My students enjoy the lessons and appreciate the explicit approach.
