Paragraph of the Week is making my students amazing little writers!

This structured, consistent approach allows students to focus on their writing skills and not the directions. Each week has the same format with a new topic. It is a 4 day format so you can send it as homework or keep it in the classroom. It is successfully used both ways at our school.

❊Day 1 is gathering their thoughts and ideas. Then, students select their 3 favorite ideas to include in the paragraph.

❊Day 2 Develop the ideas into sentences. Students also add a supporting detail (or 2) for each sentence.

❊Day 3 Introduction and conclusion sentences. Students also reread the day 2 sentences to revise for word choice and grammar.

❊Day 4 Final draft and check for convention errors.

All topics are personal so your students are automatic experts on the content. There is no research to be done to complete these paragraphs. All the content comes from their personal experiences and thoughts. There are no wrong answers here.
