This is a quick, easy way to assess your students' writing!! I use these for our weekly writings.

This Common Core aligned set includes rubrics for personal narratives, opinion, and informational writings. There are 3 sets for each. *Updated to include a set of rubric without standard numbers for those teachers moving away from common core.

You can even customize your own rubrics by using the blank editable pages to type in the standards you are assessing on that specific piece of writing. Then, you can save the new PDF for future use.

I make everything a time saver, so you do not have to type in both sides of the page. Just type once and it will appear on the other side.

As we are beginning each writing unit, I hand out the rubrics and teach what is expected on the final product. I have the students glue these into their writing notebooks for future reference. After the students complete their writing, I use the rubric to grade it.

Students earn a number score from 1-10 or 1-4, depending on the scale you selectfor each skill. The guide at the bottom of the rubric informs students and parents what the score means. I attach these rubrics right to the students’ writings after scoring them. This lets the student (and parents) know the grades. Of course, this section is editable as well.

The standards for Writing and Language are included on the rubrics to help with getting grades in the grade book.
